Endovenous Laser Treatment

An alternative to the painful and invasive vein stripping surgery, endovenous laser treatment seals problem veins shut using a laser. The skin on your leg is numbed and a catheter that’s fitted with a laser fiber is inserted into the vein that’s targeted for treatment. Ultrasound helps the physician guide the catheter to the proper location. Once in position, pulses of light are delivered inside the vein, causing the vein to collapse and seal shut.

Endovenuous laser treatment is performed at the Decatur Vein Clinic’s location as an outpatient procedure. Following treatment, a compression bandage will be placed on the leg, allowing patients to walk to immediately. Most patients return to work the day following treatment.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy ensures patients have the lowest chance possible of seeing their varicose veins returning. The treatment usually follows EVLT (which treats larger veins) and is used to shut down smaller malfunctioning veins that can cause varicose veins to return.

The treatment can also be used to treat and heal Venous Stasis Ulcers. When the blood is rerouted to healthier vessels and blood no longer pools, the venous stasis ulcers will heal on their own.

A board-certified physician or nurse practitioner uses ultrasound imaging to guide injections of a liquid sclerosant into problematic veins. The medication destroys the lining of the malfunctioning vein, thus sealing it shut. Therefore, blood is diverted to healthy veins that work properly and eliminates the recurrence of varicose veins.
